Lindsay/Ops Landfill

The Lindsay/Ops landfill located in the City of Kawartha Lakes, approximately 500 m from the Scugog River, is licensed to accept solid non-hazardous municipal waste generated from residential, commercial, institutional/industrial sectors, contaminated fill, and biosolids from the Lindsay Water Pollution Control Plant.

Comcor was originally contracted by the City of Kawartha Lakes in 2009 to prepare landfill gas production and recovery curves for the Lindsay/Ops Landfill and prepare a conceptual landfill gas collection, flaring and electricity generation design.  Following this work, Comcor was retained to design and bring the project to completion.  Since 2010 Comcor has carried out the following tasks for the City:

  • Detailed designs/tender documents for the collection system, the flaring system and the electricity generation system.
  • Construction supervision and contract administration.
  • Preparation of the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) application for the landfill gas flare, the Renewable Energy Approval (REA) application for the landfill gas electricity generation portion of the project, and the Hydro One application for connection to the grid.

Comcor has operated and maintained the flaring facility on behalf of the City of Kawartha Lakes since it was commissioned in 2012.  The electricity generation component of the project includes a 335 kW Jenbacher engine that provides power to the adjacent Water Pollution Control Plant under Hydro One’s Load Displacement Spot Market program.
