Cornwall Waste Disposal

The Cornwall Landfill Site located in Cornwall, Ontario has been in operation since 1985 and is projected to close in 2027.

In 1989, Comcor was retained to design, construct and commission a landfill gas collection and flaring system which would effectively reduce the odours emanating from the closed landfill site, which closed in 1985.

In 1991, Comcor was retained to design, construct and commission an expansion to the landfill gas collection system to include collection from the adjacent open/active landfill site. Comcor continues to be the City of Cornwall’s primary landfill gas consultant and has designed, supervised and commissioned numerous landfill gas collection and flaring system upgrades since the original system was installed.

Since 2011, Comcor has also been retained to operate and maintain the landfill gas collection and flaring system as well as the leachate collection pump system.

In 2011, the City of Cornwall retained Comcor to complete system upgrades required by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).  The original system was built prior to the inception of the Canadian Landfill Gas Code and therefore, Comcor consulted with the TSSA to determine the exact scope of the necessary modifications.

In 2021 Comcor completed a major capital project to replace the original landfill gas mechanical system and landfill gas flare and ancillary equipment in a new location onsite. The works included all the engineering design, regulatory approvals, construction supervision and commissioning of the new system
